Bus fare rises – surely the wrong way around?

I travelled by bus to Loughborough yesterday. It cost me a whopping £1.50. What I was very disappointed to see was that Woods coaches are raising ticket prices by 10 – 15% as a result of the increases in the price of fuel.

Fuel prices are increasing as a result of dwindling oil reserves and increased demand. Is it just me or should we be trying to reduce the demand for oil by perhaps making public transport a more attractive form of transport? Surely by increasing ticket prices Woods Coaches are doing the exact opposite.

My taxi fair on the ride home had also increased by £1. I was not happy!

At the moment the price for a barrel of oil is $139, it has been predicted that this price may rise to $250 per barrel. I hate to think how much that will be on my bus fare to Loughborough!

I would like to see much cheaper public transport to reduce peoples infatuation with their cars, instead of governments calling for more oil to be pumped out of the ground to meet demand surely we should be concentrating on alternative energy and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

It’s not just my bus fare that I need to worry about though. Click here to find out how rising fuel prices are affecting other areas of our lives.
